DAY 286 -- Homemade taco seasoning.

I made tacos and used homemade taco seasoning for the first time.  My daughter recommended the recipe to me, so now I will pass it on to you.  Here's the link:  Taco Seasoning

When I first bit into my taco I thought the flavor was a little mild, but after a few bites I realized it was quite flavorful and just the right amount of spiciness for me.  My husband agreed.

It seemed like a fairly healthy meal.  Organic refried beans, natural ground beef from a local farm, organic vegetables (lettuce, onion, tomato) and taco shells made from organic corn.

I wish I could report that my spices are organic too, but that will come slowly as I replace the ones I already have.

  1. Oh, this looks easy to make. I have been buying spices more often in the bulk section at our local grocery store.

  2. The bulk section is great for spices, huh? Especially for the spices that you only need a little bit of now and then, rather than a whole jar that sits on the shelf for eons. (I have far too many of those! I know they need tossed, but I can't seem to do it.)

  3. I tried this and it was really good, but I did leave out the oregano. I don't like oregano with chili. Anyway, I thought it was just right.

  4. Lynn... Yeah, I thought oregano was a weird ingredient too! I put in less than half of what the recipe called for. I didn't taste any oregano in our tacos, thankfully, but I will probably eliminate it, like you did, the next time I make it.
