DAY 242 -- The Anger Diet.

I know.  The title confused me at first too.  My husband downloaded a book on his Kindle titled: The Anger Diet (by Brenda Shoshanna, Ph.D.)  When he told me about it, I thought, Huh?  A diet for angry people?  Do angry people need certain foods?  He explained that the book helps people eliminate the anger in their lives.

The full title of the book is The Anger Diet: Thirty Days to Stress-Free Living, and it contains helpful exercises to do, daily, to rid oneself of anger in a month's time.

The author lists 24 forms of anger.  The number surprised me.  I thought anger was, well...anger.  As he read the list to me, I realized that some of the forms of anger can affect our eating habits, such as...

  • Self-Sabotage
  • Low Self-Esteem
  • Compulsions
  • Obsessions
  • Addictions
Yep, all of those are forms of anger!  The book was enlightening; I learned a lot about anger, and feelings I never associated with anger before.  It really would be healthy to go on an "Anger Diet."

  1. Hungry anger ...that's what I got! Tee hee! When my blood sugar crashes, I turn into someone my husband hardly recognizes and it's not pretty. Since I've gone to eating 6 times a day, I am pleasantly surprised that I haven't had too many crashes. I use the H.A.L.T. method. Don't get too hungry, angry, lonely or tired. Hungry is the worst one for me and it leads to anger and then I'm crabby and everyone leaves me lonely. Vicious circle. :-)

  2. Sounds like a book I should read. I wonder if our local library has it. I get so mad at their lack of choices. (tee-hee)

I do miss the great SLCo system!.

  3. Susan... I have a friend who reacts the same way when her blood sugar drops. People tell her, "We like you better when you're not hungry!" LOL I am hypoglycemic too and since I don't eat much sugar, it's easy for mine to drop. I don't get angry though, I get loopy and tired. I keep dried fruit and almonds in my purse for "emergencies" like that. (by the way... I like your HALT method! Good advice!)

Lynn...I think the Salt Lake County library system is the best I've ever experienced. (Although, I did check to see if they had The Anger Diet, and they don't!) I use the library often, and it's very convenient since one branch is not very far from my husband's work so he can swing by there and drop books/DVDs off, and pick up ones I've reserved.

  4. I've been adding hard boiled eggs to my diet and have found that it keeps the "crabby" mood at bay. I'm also eating 1/2 cup of fat-free cottage cheese daily. I needed to add protein twice a day and it seems to keep the hypoglycemia in check.
